THE FIRST ECO-SWIMEAR BRAND IN THE MALDIVES

LANALA has been an eco-conscious brand since its inception. Over the years, we were able to acquire more knowledge and crucial contacts to start our journey into using recycled fabric and become even more sustainable. Being an eco-friendly brand is not a marketing gimmick for us, it is the foundation of LANALA. We believe that it is our responsibility to protect the environment and preserve nature as much as we can for future generations.

RECYCLED FABRIC

LANALA is proud to use REPREVE fabric for most of its items. This fabric is made from recycled PET bottles and has UV 50 protection. The fabric is stretchy and comfortable, feels light and dries quickly. REPREVE has recycled over 30 billion PET bottles so far. Please check out their amazing work: www.repreve.com Other complimentary fabrics used for rash guards, swimsuit, hats, and shorts are also high-quality fabric with high UV protection and comfortable feel.

PACKAGING

LANALA uses fabric pouches or paper wrapping as packaging. We try to avoid any type of single-use plastic packaging. Our paper wrapping is made from recycled paper and cardboard.

MALDIVES HAS A SERIOUS MICROPLASTICS PROBLEM

Our country is known for its pristine lagoons and dreamy beaches. But what if I told you that recent studies have shown that the Indian Ocean region surrounding the Maldives has one of the highest levels of microplastic pollution in the world? Microplastics are pieces of plastic waste smaller than 5mm and are often microscopically tiny. Plastic waste like bottles, packaging, bags clothes or shoes that float in the ocean break down over time. In 2020, Flinders University found the concentration of microplastics around the Maldives to be so high that is impacting the eco-system, marine organisms and local island communities. LANALA certainly wants nothing to do with this tragic reality. We are therefore putting our efforts into recycling plastic for our swimwear. This way, many PET bottles don’t end up in the ocean or landfills.

TAKE A STAND AGAINST FAST FASHION

We try to create timeless designs and fits so our customers can wear our swimwear for many, many years. We make our items financially accessible to all and don’t necessarily follow trends to avoid that our items become “so last season” quickly and get discarded. “Fast Fashion” has been a big problem and caused a lot of unnecessary pollution in the past decades.

PET Bottles Never Looked This Good!

Between 6-10 PET bottles are usually recycled per rash guard!
